Bisexual

There are many people who do not want to be classified as “homosexual“ or ”heterosexual“, because they have had the experience in life that they can feel romantic or sexual feelings toward both men and women. The often describe themselves as “bisexual” (bi means “two” in Latin and refers to the two genders). Being bisexual doesn’t necessarily mean falling in love more often or having more sex than other people, but it can mean not only being attracted to the handsome guy from the house next door, but also the pretty woman on the dance floor.

There are different views about how many people are bisexual. Approximately 60 years ago, a sexologist published a study according to which 90% to 95% US-Americans have bisexual tendencies – almost all of them. However, most scientists consider these numbers too high. What is certain, is that there are many people who have fallen in love with both women and men in their lives. However, most of them have only had relationships with either women or men. This may be because many feel embarrassed about their bisexuality and do not show it publicly.
Ultimately, it’s not about numbers or statistics. It is just important to know that there is nothing unnatural about liking men and women. Real life cannot be easily divided into categories.

Incidentally, the singer Kesha who came out as bisexual in 2013 once described her emotional life as follows: “I don’t just love men. I love people. It’s not about gender. It’s just about the spirit that exudes from that other person you’re with.”
